Ways To Save On Travel

Ways To Save On Travel

Fourth of July is coming up soon and it's summer, definitely time for vacation!

As I have always said, traveling need not put a hole in your pockets. You can always save on travel, if you know what to do and where to look. Here are some ways to save on travel:

1. Work while you travel

Look for accommodations that will allow you to work while on vacation in exchange for huge discounts on your stay. For example, at Gunflint Lodge (the classic resort on the Gunflint Trail north of Grand Marais) hosts weekends each spring and fall wherein guests work on Saturday mornings preparing the resort for the coming season (planting flowers, wielding an ax, etc.). In return, the guests only pay $99 for their two-night stay, also including a Saturday-night dinner buffet.

2. Visit Europe's 'second cities'

Europe's second cities (example: Warsaw and Podgorica) are far more less expensive than the more popular cities such as Paris or London.

4. Sleep on a sofa

It always pays to have friends all over the globe. So that when you travel to their cities, just let your friends know and be ready to sleep on your friend's sofa or guest room. Also, there are travel tools such as CouchSurfing — a nonprofit organization that links travelers with hosts in more than 230 countries. So do check it out, if you haven't found it already.
