Have kids will travel
by Lisa Marie Mercer on June 25, 2008

On Saturday July 12, 2008, over two thousand people will "om" in on the 6th Annual Yogathon and Blissfest a festival celebrating community and sustainable living. Founded six years ago by local yoga personality Eoin Finn, the Yogathon and Blissfest raises money for Camp Moomba, an organization that provides Canadian children impacted by HIV/AIDS with an unforgettable summer-camp experience.
July 12 has been officially proclaimed Yoga Day by the City of Vancouver, a fitting tribute to the popularity of yoga in the city that invented the Yogathon. The highlight of this outdoor summer event is the 108 minute-long yoga flow led by Finn and other top local yoga instructors. The yoga practice includes various styles of yoga and is suitable for all levels, from those who have never tried yoga to more advanced practitioners. The event is, however, about more than physical yoga. As Finn says, "It's about Yoga with a capital "Y", the outlook that everything is connected, something we all believe in when we slow down enough to listen."
Interconnectedness is the theme of the Blissfest, an artisan marketplace that will host 70+ exhibitors promoting the best local, sustainable, and eco-friendly products and services that Vancouver has to offer. Expect to find some of Vancouver's favorite organic eateries, yoga apparel companies, yoga studios, and wellness companies here.
The Blissfest is proud to present a line up of great local performers: Kwayedza Marimba will play high-energy, African dance music; singer/songwriter Eileen Rothe will bring her soulful, alternative rock to the stage; the Ghost Brothers will play their groovy, funk-style tunes; while Beats Without Borders D.J.s will spin blissful tunes during the yoga practice.
"Just Breathe" an Eco-Chic Fashion Show produced by Honey Mustard Productions and Vancouveryoga.com, will showcase local, ethical yoga and street wear that embodies the west-coast yoga lifestyle. Clothing that is produced in sustainable way directly relates to the values emphasized in the yoga way of life.
Children are a big part of this amazing festival. Kids under the age of 12 can enjoy the day at no cost (with an adult registration) and will have a great time in the Vancity Kids Korner. Activities such as crafts, games, Yoga for kids, and storytelling by famed performer Jean-Pierre Makoso, will fill the afternoon and make for a wonderful family experience.
