Travel to Europe on a Weak Dollar

Unfortunately for Americans who have plans to discover Europe, the Euro leaped high against the dollar and it looks a lot like it is not coming done (to a more reasonable level) anytime soon. This means that every single thing is now more expensive for Americans, should they go to Europe.

Of course, those whose hearts and mind are really set to conquer Europe (or those who cannot cancel their reservations anymore) have no other choice but to spend a bit more while they vagabond through Europe.

Here are a few tips on how to make it easier for you to cope with your dollars:

  • Buy your Euros in Europe. You will get better rates. If you have to withdraw money from an ATM in Europe, make sure that you withdraw larger amounts to minimize fees.
  • You can try to work for travel or volunteer.
  • Brush up on your skills and get that free drink at the bar. Or, you can always just make yourself look pretty and hope for a free drink to come your way.
  • Rather than look for a cheap hostel, try to get your brother to hook you up with his girlfriend's sorority sister's aunt's friend in Paris who could let you stay at her place. Or, you can try couchsurfing.
  • Try the Hobo Tactic. I have to say that you need to have the courage and be quite shameless in order for this to work.

See, it's not going to be so bad (=expensive) after all. As long as you do your research, you will definitely be able to stay within your budget, as limited as it may be.

1 us dollar was equal to 1.2 euro in year 2000, can you believe that. If you want to visit europe, my advice is – do it now, the dollar will not go up anytime soon against euro, and it may go even lower.
