For me it is all about money. Having ran out of cash and getting my credit card rejected whilst abroad was probably one of the worst days I’ve had! Through no fault of my own! The bank had sent out a new card, cancelled the old one without telling me!
Long term trips have these situations occur from time to time, therefore it’s important to carry a pre-paid card that you can immediately top up from your bank account if you are going to be away for some time, so that you can have immediate access to funds if required.
Hope this is useful!
