Touring Rome with Kids

Filed in archive European insider , Have kids will travel by Melissa Petri on September 14, 2005

As as awestruck as you may become when you first see St. Peter's Basilica or the Pallatine, chances are, your little bundle of joy would be yawning in boredom.

In between the must-sees Rome has to offer, take a bit of time and take your child(ren) where they can enjoy this historical city, kiddie style. Here are some of your options:

Luna Park is a large amusement parklinks with fairground rides, a roller coaster and other traditional amusement rides is located at Via delle Tre Fontane. FREE.

Villa Borghese is a huge park (with park surface of 80 hectares) with several entertaining rides for kids. On a very sunny day, there are 35 fountains all over the park which is good for splashing. FREE.

Explora: The Children's Museum of Rome is located at Via Flaminia 82. Described by some as the single best attraction in Rome where children are free to touch, experiment and discover the wonders of communication, technology, etc.

Rome may not boast of large theme parks (eg Disneyland) but, on the plus side, the Italians adore children and they show it. It is not surprising to find Italians flirting with little kids as much as they do with adults.

When you travel with kids, not only will you expose them to culture but it will also promote family togetherness. As long as you take their special needs and limitations into consideration, it will be a relaxed, fun-filled family holiday which you would always remember.
