To Group Tour or Not to Group Tour
Some travellers do not really want to take care of the little details. If you are like that, then it would be wise to participate in a group tour.

With group tours, you need not take care of booking flights and hotels separately. In addition, you have a knowledgeable local guide who could tell you a lot about each site. Entry into museums and the like will be faster, too.

However, there are disadvantages to group tours, too. You have to follow the schedule they have set. You'd be one of the many who would have to be on the look-out for that flag that your tour guide would be holding. You get to see a lot BUT, you do it in a hurry. Think Japanese tourist -> click, click with the camera, short intro and then, you are off to your next destination.

I guess, it all depends on your requirements and on where you will be going. If you are off to some exotic destination then, group tours would probably be best.

If you are going alone, it would be best to participate in group tours organized by a local professional, cultural or educational group. That way, you will be with people who you can relate to. People with the same interests.

Travelling is a matter of taste. Choose what you think would fit your own requirements.
