Tips and Tricks

When buying plane tickets, I normally just take note of three things. First, if my name is correct. Second, allowed weight of luggage. And third, time of check-in and departure. That's it. Well, if I have time, I just briefly read through some policies (when I'm bored) and that's it. Honestly, I've never really spent much time going through all the rules and regulations attached to it.
If you're just like me, who stupidly ignores ticket policies, then better read on. Thanks to Christopher Elliot via CNN for writing a piece on "The Six Worst Ticket Rules That Can Affect Your Next Trip".
Here are the Top 3, that most people don't know about.
1. A ticket could be canceled any time at no additional cost. Not true, because CHANGE FEE will be charged. The rule also says that their are "NO CHANGES OR REFUNDS PERMITTED FOR A PASSENGER WHO NO-SHOWS."
2. "If you try to make a change to your ticket after the first leg of your flight, you lose the ticket. And you have to buy a brand-new one."
3. "Some airlines will charge a change fee and will issue the balance as vouchers, which is not at all what you would have expected."

I would, however, assume that if a change fee is being charged, then a change is being made - if not, then this is more of a refund, where I might expect a portion to be retained for admin costs, and cash/returned to my card for the rest. OR for vouchers instead of 'money'.
