The Signature Room in Chicago

"The Restaurant Chicago Looks Up To" is their marketing slogan and I agree in more ways than one. Located on the 95th floor of the John Hancock building in Chicago, Il. The Signature Room is an example of culinary excellence mixed with perfect atmosphere. This saturday my family and two of our friends had lunch at The Signature Room and here are a few comments that I jotted down as I ate:

1. Food: The main reason I visit a restaurant and keep going back is the food! Mon-Sat The Signature Room features a lunch buffet "The Signature Buffet" (11am-2pm) that includes carved meats, exquisite salads, wonderful side items and soups. I've visited The Signature Room many times over the past few years and have never been disappointed with the food. It's always fresh and great tasting! The price for the buffet is $18.00 for adults and $10.00 for children. This does not include drinks or dessert, but considering the price of admission to the Hancock Observatory($9.75), located one floor below the restaurant, it's worth it. Their Menu is also packed full of delicious items both for lunch and dinner. Expect to pay more for menu items, especially at dinner time. On the weekends they have a Jazz Trio in the main dininglinks area in the evenings.

2. Atmosphere: I'm not sure you could do anything more to enhance the atmosphere of the Chicago Metro Area Skyline, but with great window table views, The Signature Room has taken care of that as well. The Signature Lounge is located one floor about the main dining area, and it's a great place to spend a romantic evening watching the sunset over the city of Chicago. Casual Clothing can be worn during lunch, but a suit coat is suggested for dinner. Remember this isn't McDonald's, besides what better way to play dress-up as an adult!

3. Service: Excellent, is the only english word that I know of that can sum up the service experienced at The Signature Room.

4. Children: I have children and I never eat in "fancy" restaurants that do not offer menu selections and services for children. Though limited, The Signature Room does offer child selections on their menu and the portions that come to the table are enough to satisfy an adult.

I give The Signature Room a 5 out of 5 and would encourage any of you visiting Chicago or living in Chicago to make it an item on your travel itinerary. You can find out more information and make reservations, which they suggests for weekends, on their website: www.signatureroom.com
