To encourage people with less disposable income (the youth and the retired) to travel, the travel industry are offering age-related discounts.

Resorts, hotels, airlines and other travel providers offer special travel discounts for older travelers. So when you are of a certain age, it would not hurt to ask if you can be qualified for a senior discount. Use a site aggregator to check which travel provider has the best offer.

Now when it comes to airlines, Southwest may just be your best bet:

"Southwest has offered one of the best senior airfare discount programs in the U.S., giving travelers ages 65 and up exclusive access to affordable fares for last-minute travel. Plus, unlike most other airlines that offer senior fares, Southwest's senior tickets can be booked online, making it even easier for mature travelers to buy and compare fares."

And... there are even more reasons to choose Southwest. Apart from the best deal, they also do not require advance purchase for senior fares and they are always refundable. It helps a lot to know that you will not be throwing away the money you saved, should something happen that would prevent you from traveling.
