Shakespeare's Globe, London
Filed in archive Armchair Traveler by Lisa Marie Mercer on June 4, 2008

For anyone with even the slightest affinity for Shakespeare, a visit to Shakespeare's Globe should be placed on the "must do" list.Located in the London Borough of Southwark, the Globe is a replica of the original Elizabethan playhouse, an open air theatre that was built in 1599.
If you plan to attend a performance, the words "open air" are key. Even in spring and summer, London nights can be chilly, so dress accordingly. If you have sturdy legs, and are able to stand for an entire performance, you can get a relatively inexpensive ticket. However, if it rains, you will be at the mercy of the elements. Those in seats will be protected by the sound roof. Costs for seats begin at £15. For pre-performance dining, the snack bar has some delicious sandwiches
