Salisbury Cathedral

When we lived in New York City, my husband and I were acolytes at the Cathedral Church of Saint John the Divine. As if that was not a strong enough link to the great C of E, I must confess to an absolutely hopeless addiction to the novels of Susan Howatch. As such, my obsession with visiting Salisbury Cathedral is understandable. I was not disappointed. Built in 1258, the Salisbury Cathedral embraces the history of a religion, a country and an era. You need not be an Anglican to appreciate it. There are many oddities that transcend religious beliefs.
For example, north nave houses Europe's oldest working clock, which was built in Ad 1386. The best preserved of only four surviving original magna carta is on display in the Chapter House. There is no admission fee to the Cathedral. However, the tower tours cost the equivalent of US $13.
