Do you ever wonder where confiscated items in the airport end up? Well, an article from USA Today says that prohibited carry on items left behind are auctioned off.
Confiscated items from the Bradley International Airport are picked up by the authorities from the State of New Hampshire. These are then auctioned off for around $1-$2, at the state surplus store which frees the Transportation and Security Administration of the worries of disposing the items. Proceeds of the sale goes to the state. Before this set-up, TSA had to cart off the items from Bradley to a foundry in West Springfield where the items were melted.
For the last 3 years, the number of confiscated items went down from 5.29 tons to 1.5 tons.
Rex Sox paraphernalia is one of the most favorite items confiscated.
