Online Travel Reviews

The problem is, just like any other information available in the world wide web, there are also lots of bogus travel reviews online.
How, oh how, would we be able to tell if a review is from a real fellow traveler/consumer or not? How can we guarantee that the review we believed would not be leading us to the crappiest hotel in the city? How can we make sure that we get the value for our money?
Well, thank god for travel sites like Priceline and Expedia, fake consumer online reviews of hotels are now being scrutinized.
"Priceline.com says it addresses the problem of bogus reviews by only allowing users to post opinions if its records show that the person has stayed at the hotel."
"Every review on TripAdvisor is read by a person trained in fraud detection. If a fake review does slip through, it is taken down immediately, and hotels seeking to "game the system" are penalized, said TripAdvisor spokesman Brooke Ferencsik."
So the next time you book a budget hotel, avoid the surprises by cross-checking (or using) with priceline, expedia
or tripadvisor. source
