Oktoberfest Guide, Part 1

Who has not heard of the Oktoberfest? It's only 3 weeks away until people from all over head for Bavaria
. The Oktoberfest is one of the most famous festivals in Germany. It is held each year in Munich (Muenchen) in late September to early October. The exact date varies each year as it is scheduled 16 days before the first Sunday of October.
Beer plays a major role.
During the fest, only local breweries are allowed to serve beers in the beer tents (Bierzelt). Munich breweries that serve beer are Löwenbräu, Spaten, Augustiner, Hofbräu, Paulaner and Hacker-Pschorr.
Of course, along with the copious amounts of beer consumed, visitors also partake of the traditional food such as sausages, sauerkrauts and haxe, among others.
Where oh Where? Every year, Oktoberfest is set up on the Theresienwiese. To date, there are 14 main tents. Now, which tent should you choose? It all depends on what your expectations are. If you want to hobnob with all the other tourists like yourself, you should head to Hofbrau. If you want to rock and roll, choose Hacker Festzelt. If you want to be in the trendiest tent and be with singles and the younger crowd, choose the Hippodrom.
Need a few more information to help you decide? Check the official Oktoberfest site for relevant information and pictures of each tent.
Oh yea, remember, no matter how drunk you may be, remember NOT to hide that beer mug in your bag. Buy it, if you want one as a souvenir!!! You would not want to pay 50€, would you?
