Myrtle Beach Vacations: I Love SC’s Grand Strand

Myrtle Beach Vacations have kept me motivated and sane over the past few years. My wife and I schedule a vacation in Myrtle Beach in June each year and we love the place. We usually begin "counting down" in April – X number of days left before we leave for Myrtle Beach…

The Grand Strand is a beautiful section of beach that stretches for about 60 miles along the South Carolina coast. Myrtle Beach is central to the Grand Strand. It offers shopping, nightlife, dining, and plenty of resorts and rental properties. But a short drive out of the city will take you to some beautiful parks and botanical gardens (I visit Brookgreen Gardens every year). And historic Georgetown at the south end of the Grand Strand is an enchanting old antebellum-era port.

While I enjoy being on the beach and soaking up sun, Myrtle Beach's restaurant scene is probably my favorite part of the vacation. I really enjoy the seafood. The region is known for a style of seafood cooking called "calabash" – fried seafood breaded with flour and buttermilk.

Myrtle Beach is the relaxing highlight of my summer each year.
