Have you been to Sikkim?

Reading the April 2010 edition of Reader's Digest, I discovered Sikkim. Yes…Sikkim which is located in the far northeast of India.
Getting there starts in Bagdogra Airport. Then you need to hire a jeep or car to cross the bumpy, winding road to Sikkim. Of course you need a visa to go to India. Once in India, you will still need a special Inner Line Permit to enter the State of Sikkim. I read that the destination is all worth the getting there.
Getting there, you need a guide and a whole lot of determination and perseverance. But once you see the peaks of Kanchenjunga (the 3rd highest peak in the world), you will forget all the trouble in getting there.
I'd like to go there one day. How about you?

As I’m presently planning a visit to South Asia come November, I’ve done a good bit of research on that corner of the globe (NE India, Bangladesh, Sikkim, Bhutan, Nepal) and…
It seems to me that if it’s the glorious views of Kanchenjunga you’re after – Darjeeling may well be a better option. Lots easier to get to (incl. a ride on the “toy train”), no permit required, and purely breathtaking views of Kanchenjunga:
