Exotic Vacations
If you'd rather spend your summer vacation in an intriguingly unusual or different location then it would be best to leave the country. Head off to exotic destinations where tourists aren't elbow to elbow. Places like the Sub-Saharan Africa, the Indian subcontinent, Central and South America. You can also try South East Asia and the Pacific Islands.

If you are looking for a different kind of adventure, you might want to check out Exotic Vacations: Your Guide to the Seldom-Seen World. You can take your pick from vacations like Sailing the Galapagos to Bareboat Sailing in Belize. Your adventurous soul would surely find a tip here worth considering.

However, before you leave, you should keep in mind that the there might be some health risks when visiting some of these underdeveloped destinations. Keep in mind to do your research before your trip for necessary inoculations, tips on how to avoid getting sick and on what to bring for you trip (think diarrhea tablets, mosquito repellants, etc.)

Check out Lifehacker for an alá-McGyver solution to keep mosquitos away from you while you are backpacking in, say, tropical South East Asia.

Remember, for this kind of travel, you need to prepare a lot more.
