Cheap Ride
by Melissa Petri on October 11, 2006

The rising number of budget airlines has made country-Hopping in Europe a lot cheaper than what it used to be. However, if you'd rather go the old-fashioned, more romantic way, traveling by train to visit one European city after another is definitely the way to go.
For non-residents of Europe, the best way to get a good price on train fares is to purchase a Eurailpass outside of Europe.
Eurail Passes are train tickets that allow users unlimited day travel in 17 European countries called the 'Eurail Network'. It would be a lot cheaper than buying individual train tickets in Europe.
If your itinerary dictates that you need more flexibility and/or will only travel for a few days, fret not. There are other options available to you:
- Eurail Flexipass allows non-consecutive day travel in all 17 Eurail countries
- Eurail Select Pass gives you the flexibility to travel to 3 - 5 adjoining Eurail countries.
- Single Country Eurail is perfect for those who paln to travel within only one country as it allows for unlimited rail travel in that country.
FYI on a GREAT DEAL: Eurail SelectPass counts Belgium, Netherlands and Luxembourg as one country.
And according to Pia, "the Youth Pass gives a significant discount to travelers that are 26 years old and under. When you are young, on a budget and have the energy to go for 15 days to 3 months jumping on and off trains to anywhere the Eurail network can take you, it definitely is the way to go!"
