Bad weather is not impossible to happen during the Christmas season. Frequent fliers are so used to delays or cancellations due to weather. In case you find yourself waiting in the airport due to uncontrollable circumstances, a discounted room in a hotel could relieve you of your stress.

According to Smarter Travel, you can get a discounted rate in hotels if you request a "distressed traveler rate". The reason behind this is that
Typically, airlines contract a certain number of hotel rooms for personnel and stranded travelers, and properties offer overnight rates at a discount. These hotels are often near the airport, so you can easily get back to make your rescheduled flight.

A decent "distressed traveler rate" would cost $100 or less.

So instead of waiting in packed airports, go and de-stress yourself in hotels using the "distressed traveler rate".
