1. Book Your Vacations Early

Booking ahead of time always has it rewards. Most of the time, early birds get the best promos and discounts.

2. Consider Pre-Paying Your Hotel Rooms

Paying your hotel rooms ahead of time often entitles you to big discounts. Most major hotels offer 'advance purchase rates' which are often the lowest rates available.

3. Join Frequent Flier and Guest Programs

Using frequent flier miles gets you free airfares which would cover a big chunk in your vacation money.

4. Look for Extras Such as Free Breakfast and Internet

Of course, who doesn't love a free breakfast and internet. So look for hotels that offer such amenities.

5. Try Alternate Vacations

Even if you have already set your mind and heart on a certain vacation destination but can't afford it, then drop it and look for something else that's within your budget.

6. Read Reviews

It pays to read what others have experienced before you. Reading reviews is the best way to get first-hand insight about a hotel or place from fellow travelers.

7. Group Membership Discounts

There are many hotels, theme parks and other attractions that give discounts for members of various groups. For example, if you are a member of AAA, AARP or another similar group, always ask if there is a discount. There most probably is!
