Bay Area Beaches: Safe For Swimming

According to a study recently released, the Bay Area beaches are cleaner and safer for swimming than it has ever been.

Water samples at 68 bay and ocean beaches around the Bay Area were tested for dangerous bacteria (mostly originating from raw sewage) that could cause intestinal problems, ear infections, skin rashes and respiratory ailments for swimmers.

While beaches are usually safe and clean in the summer, it is a different story on winters. When heavy rains cause untreated sewage to flow into the bay and ocean, bacteria reach dangerous levels in some areas.

According to James Alamillo, a Heal the Bay manager who announced the study results in San Francisco at Baker Beach on Wednesday morning:

"People should go out and enjoy the beaches this summer. Water quality was great in the Bay Area, at least in the summer."

So gear up and hit the beach in the Bay Area now.
